Beautiful Swap

Recently, I was the recipient of a scrapbook from a "friend of the family" which was full of all kinds of ephemera from the late 1800's era, and I'm not patient enough to cut out and make something with it. I came across this blog: Life is a Beautiful Place and we worked out a swap. She got the scrapbook and I received one of her journals. See photo below. Here is her shop. I'm so happy my scrapbook found a good "home". Sometimes things feel just right, and this felt "right".

What's Happening?

Haven't had a lot of knitting going on in my blog of late. So here goes: The baby sweater (prior blog) is still at the same stage!. The Noro scarf is much farther along, but too rolled along the edge to make a good picture. I should finish that this weekend and then will post a picture after it's blocked. I want to get started on the monthly KAL project - a beaded necklace.
We went to the Saturday market in the South Hill/Puyallup area this morning. Got some real nice radishes - second time from the same vendor. Opening weekend was just 2 weeks ago in this new location. I'm hoping it will do well and expand as the crops start coming on in this area. There were a few strawberries there, but rather high priced. I bought a "bugle weed" plant for the yard that I'm going to try to plant this afternoon.

PHEW - IT's WARMISH!!!

I don't know what we did to deserve all this heat, but it can go away anytime. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we don't know temperatures in the 90's. The 80's are our usual hot and not until mid summer. We have had a week now of temperatures in the high 80's and 90's, and we're all thirsting for cool and rain. Hard to believe I'd ever want rain - but the flowers and lawns could sure use it.

A couple of days ago, we took a trip with friends up to Mt. Rainier. We toured the new Visitor Center - which was beautiful, then lunched at the Lodge at Paradise. They had a lot of snow this past winter, but it was off the road up the mountain, but still stacked high alongside the roads and parking lot. Along the way, the rivers and waterfalls are running full speed ahead with melting glacier water. For those of you who have not ever seen glacial water - it is the most beautiful milky-greenish color. Such a beautiful mountain - we look at it every day from where we live.

Yard pics May 2009

As I said in my last posting, I wanted to show you some pictures of the beautiful flowers in my yard. Mother Nature has been pretty cruel here in western Washington, and its taken a long time for things to break out into bloom. But, when it finally happened - things are beautiful.

YEAH! IT'S ALMOST JUNE

I'm happy because hopefully we'll start having a long spell of nice weather. Although it has been quite nice the past few days, but looks like a little bit of rain and clouds are due for the next day or so. We do have beautiful summers here in western Washington.

First off, I want to show you what I've been working on: I bought this beautiful Mini Mochi yarn on the South Sound Yarn Crawl and am making this. Here's what mine looks like so far. I'm not crazy about the yarn. It feels really soft but sure goes from thick to thin often. Hopefully it'll block out nicely.

I'm also working another spa set in the 3-Diamond Pattern, this time in a cornflower blue. Just have to finish the white towel with blue diamond inset. I just love this pattern and will hate to give my two sets away. My first one was in a teal green.
And last, but not least, I am working on a baby sweater, pattern from the 101 Designer one skein Wonders. This has been fun, and it's my very first sweater. Ready now to learn the 3-needle bind-off on the shoulder seam, then do the back neck stitches, front facing and sleeves. Here's the Ravelry pattern page


I was going to show you some outdoor pictures of some of my beautiful rhodies and other flowers, but rather cloudy at the moment, so that'll have to wait for another day.

CRAWL DAY

Had a nice little trip today on the South Sound Yarn Crawl. My husband went with me as he hasn't been out of the house much since he started chemo treatments. We went to Lakewood, Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Port Orchard for yarn stops. I picked up some Mini-Mochi in Rainbow color to make a scarf like this. Also got some Muench TOUCH ME in a beautiful burgundy to make a Neck Cozy. At another shop I purchased some Noro sock yarn to make a Gaia Shoulder Hug shown here on Ravelry. So needless to say I have lots to keep me busy for a while.

We traveled round-trip 160 miles by way of Olympia, Lacey, Yelm and home on a beautiful sunny day. Mt. Rainier stood out really sharp in all her glory. Still lots of snow up there.
