Yard pics May 2009

As I said in my last posting, I wanted to show you some pictures of the beautiful flowers in my yard. Mother Nature has been pretty cruel here in western Washington, and its taken a long time for things to break out into bloom. But, when it finally happened - things are beautiful.

YEAH! IT'S ALMOST JUNE

I'm happy because hopefully we'll start having a long spell of nice weather. Although it has been quite nice the past few days, but looks like a little bit of rain and clouds are due for the next day or so. We do have beautiful summers here in western Washington.

First off, I want to show you what I've been working on: I bought this beautiful Mini Mochi yarn on the South Sound Yarn Crawl and am making this. Here's what mine looks like so far. I'm not crazy about the yarn. It feels really soft but sure goes from thick to thin often. Hopefully it'll block out nicely.

I'm also working another spa set in the 3-Diamond Pattern, this time in a cornflower blue. Just have to finish the white towel with blue diamond inset. I just love this pattern and will hate to give my two sets away. My first one was in a teal green.
And last, but not least, I am working on a baby sweater, pattern from the 101 Designer one skein Wonders. This has been fun, and it's my very first sweater. Ready now to learn the 3-needle bind-off on the shoulder seam, then do the back neck stitches, front facing and sleeves. Here's the Ravelry pattern page

I was going to show you some outdoor pictures of some of my beautiful rhodies and other flowers, but rather cloudy at the moment, so that'll have to wait for another day.

CRAWL DAY

Had a nice little trip today on the South Sound Yarn Crawl. My husband went with me as he hasn't been out of the house much since he started chemo treatments. We went to Lakewood, Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Port Orchard for yarn stops. I picked up some Mini-Mochi in Rainbow color to make a scarf like this. Also got some Muench TOUCH ME in a beautiful burgundy to make a Neck Cozy. At another shop I purchased some Noro sock yarn to make a Gaia Shoulder Hug shown here on Ravelry. So needless to say I have lots to keep me busy for a while.

We traveled round-trip 160 miles by way of Olympia, Lacey, Yelm and home on a beautiful sunny day. Mt. Rainier stood out really sharp in all her glory. Still lots of snow up there.

Mothers Day

Hope you all had a nice Mothers Day both weatherwise and family/friend wise. I did. My daughter, son-in-law, and 2 gdaughters came to our house. I fixed a picnic ham (just boil it in water for a couple hours), and made a jello salad with chopped-up apples, oranges and bananas - the young ones really like this. My daughter brought the family recipe of cheesy broccoli casserole, which we seem to make for larger family get-togethers. Too large for our just hubby and I. We also had some wonderful ciabatta bread.

After dinner, daughter and I went to Michaels and Pacific Fabrics and shopped, while the guys and kids cleaned up the kitchen, which was nice. When we got back home, we had lemon cake I had made and some ice cream. All-in-all, a wonderful day! Didn't get any knitting done, but have worked today on some of the baby sweater. Yesterday was beautifully sunny, today started out that way, then heavy spring rain, now back to sun.

Last Saturday I went to the youngest gdaughter's gymnastics meet in Maple Valley. She's 6yrs old and a pretty good gymnast. Was fun watching. Here's a picture of them warming up.

'Been A While

Kinda lost my "mojo" there for a while - wasn't knitting anything, and words were not coming to my blank mind.

But today I have a couple of pictures to show: The finished spa set of 2 towels, 2 faceloths and some pretty Dancing Waters fragrance mist from Bath & Body Works. The cloths and towels are the 3-Diamond pattern and turned out beautiful.

I've started a baby sweater Pink Tweed for Baby by Lorna Miser on Ravelry. Our monthly KAL group at Pacific Fabrics is working on this project for the month of May. I don't have a baby in mind as of yet, but if one doesn't come up by the time I'm finished, it will go to a charity.

Also working a little on the beautiful lace scarf, TAIZE (on Ravelry). At the rate I'm going on this scarf, I'll still be working on it next year. It is fun to work on, but is my first lace project and it sure needs to be done in a quiet place with lots of light!

Other than that, my DH's chemo treatments are working - Yeah! Less time is being spent in doctor's offices, but still have to stay away from the public until his immune system builds back up. Our Daughter and family are coming Sunday for Mother's Day - glad to get my Grandma fix.
